Dublin born artist, Deborah Donnelly graduated from NCAD in 1998 and took off to NYC where she learned the lessons of being a professional artist. Deborah had a show in The Whistler House Museum in Boston and after September 11th happened she returned home from NYC to continue her extraordinarily successful career. She is also a published Author of Children’s books and has work in the Saachi Galleries and Tate Museums. With work in many important collections she is gathering very strong momentum and her work is worth investing in.
Deborah did not, however, leave all of Massachusetts behind—her cow paintings are a constant reminder of the New England landscape that inspired them. They also are a link between America and Ireland in the rural expressiveness of the work ranging from hens, chickens and her infamous cows.
Deborah explains that her “interest in primitive, naïve painting led towards a simplification of form which has taken to a new level of expression. I prefer to capture the feeling—the fleeting moment—rather than meticulous, clinical detail ” which leads her to the conclusion that “form and composition are more important than the actual subject.”
