"Birds of a feather" - hand drawn stencil with spray.

This egg was inspired by unity and movement. The difference in colour between the swallows/swifts represents nothing more than them working together and is a shape universally recognized. The three core colours blue, white and gold were used for their history. White for its purity. Blue, as it has always been around us but you can't touch it (sea and sky) and was the most difficult colour to obtain in the history of western art. And gold, for the Ancient Egyptians, meant the sun. For Gustav Klimt, romantic love. For us, money. The original concept for the sky was to only use the blue that is our national colour and the pattern in the sky to portray a Celtic feel...these all progressed through its development.

Biography

Born in London in 1980, Dublin-based artist David Uda (Duda) is one of Ireland’s artists on the rise. While Duda’s pieces vary from each body of work, from one-off stencils to glass work, he predominantly uses the medium of painting. In 2000, Duda was awarded Young Fashion Designer of the Year and in 2001 he went on to graduate from Grafton Academy with a degree in fashion and dress design. For the past two years, as well as three solo shows, Duda was selected as one of the Artists to exhibit in The Art Source Exhibition in the RDS, one of Ireland’s most celebrated art fairs.

With a background in fashion and a love for general aesthetic, Duda’s pieces are colourful and natural. While he draws a lot of inspiration from the female form, many of Duda’s paintings can be characterized by a genuine appreciation for beauty. A number of pieces can be seen in restaurants and retail outlets all over Dublin, namely Coppinger Row, Whitefriar Grill, Damson Diner, Ukiyo and Toni & Guy. Duda is currently represented in Galleries across Ireland, including An Clachan Gallery, Donegal, The Riverside Gallery, Wicklow and wine bar/ restaurant Bagots Hutton, Dublin 2.
