James Hayes has been working as a sculptor since 1990 and has been producing site specific public sculpture since 2005. James was born in the USA in 1965, was raised in Ottawa & Toronto, Canada, and has been based in Ireland since 1993. He completed his Fine Art Diploma at the Central Technical School in Toronto in 1989. After moving to Ireland he finished a Fine Art Degree at the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology in 2002, and expanded his computer skill set with a Master of Science in Multimedia Systems at Trinity College in Dublin in 2004.
James Hayes has exhibited solo as well as in prestigious group exhibitions and events, both nationally and internationally. James has organised five experimental bronze casting symposia (Umha Aois '03,'02, '01, '99 & '97), and continues to participate in the semi-annual Umha Aois projects.
James Hayes has created permanent private & public art commissions in Ireland and the USA, and is represented in public, corporate and private collections in Canada, USA, UK and Ireland.
For the permanent public artworks James has worked with bronze, stainless steel, and concrete, choosing the materials that best suit the artwork, the site, and how the public will interact with the artwork.
