Kate Bedell studied Fine Art at Dun Laoghaire School of Art and Design, Co. Dublin from 1980 to 1984 and graduated with a distinction. It was after this that she started painting in watercolours on a painting holiday in Cornwall and has been working in this medium ever since.
In 1998, she was elected a member of the Water Colour Society of Ireland, and in 1999 took part in two of the Channel 4 T.V. programmes “Watercolour Challenge”, painting scenes of Joyce’s Tower in Sandycove and Powerscourt Waterfall. Both of these paintings sold at the Watercolour Challenge Exhibition at the Mall Galleries. After this Kate moved to Bangalore, India, with her family for seven years where she taught art in an International School and painted and exhibited a series of paintings of Indian women. On returning home to Ireland she received the K & M Evans award at the annual Water Colour Society of Ireland exhibition for her painting “Women Washing by the Lake in Udaipur, India”. In 2012 she was elected as an associate member of the Ulster Watercolour Society.
Kate has exhibited twice at the R.H.A. annual show, the Sumuka Gallery in India, and some Dublin galleries and presently shows work at the Framework Gallery in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin. Her work has been bought by Tesco Ireland, Beaumont Hospital, and is held in private and corporate collections in Ireland, U.K., South Africa, India, U.S., Canada, Singapore, and Japan.
