Lorraine Whelan is a visual artist and writer based in Bray, Co. Wicklow. Since 1989 she has exhibited her work throughout Ireland in both solo and group exhibitions and has also taken part in group exhibitions in Toronto, Canada and Shanghai, China. Whelan has participated in a number of artist residencies and symposia and her work is included in both private (US, Canada, Australia, UK, & Belgium) and in public/corporate collections (Microsoft WPGI, the OPW, the HSE, the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, & Europol).
Lorraine Whelan’s work has developed from her own life and circumstances, using whatever media or method is appropriate; she creates both temporary and permanent work. Whelan’s writing takes the form of poetry, which has been published in Ireland and Canada, and art criticism and commentary that has been published in Ireland.
