Patricia Murphy is an internationally exhibited artist whose contemporary art work is immediately recognisable and includes paintings, wall-hangings, public art installations and rugs.
“My approach is abstract but the work is very much rooted in the natural world. It is about finding a visual expression for the energy that underpins nature.”
What makes this work unique is the intuitive and assured understanding of colour. Truly described by Fintan O Toole in an Irish Times article as dazzling work; exhilarating colour is Patricia’ s signature and visual language. She says that she is in love with the properties of light as perceived through the colour spectrum and her vibrant, highly desirable paintings and textiles exude that energy. Mixed media, acrylic paint, dye, pigments and constructed collage are used to build up multiple layers of sensual colour, creating glowing artworks that makes the heart sing.
Patricia Murphy attended the National College of Art and Design in Dublin where she studied painting, print and textiles. Further study has included courses in Paris, and London. The work has won numerous awards, including the RDS Competition and Funding awards from both the Arts and Crafts Council.
The work is held in a number of Public Collections and has been exhibited internationally, including, London, Paris, Cologne, Dubai and Finland. Murphy has completed many public commissions which are usually site specific and can be substantial in scale, including for the government departments of Communications, Transport, Family and Children as well as for The Garda College, Louth County Council and Banagher College.
